Paul Hunter Video Poll

The webmaster of www.geocities.com/hypepaul (a site dedicated to Hype Williams and Paul Hunter - they are directors of several music videos) recently asked in a poll which music videos ever made by them were the best. And the "Honey" video which was directed by Hunter was one of them. Explanation: Mariah Carey as a 007-like spy? That's the theme behind this video which features Mariah as a kidnapped spy who escapes from her kidnappers by diving off a balcony into a pool, and jet-skiing away, later to be rescued by helicopter by Mase. Sound corny? Well, Paul Hunter made it look GOOD.

I was just e-mailing in response to Nicole's message. That show was GMTV that Mariah went on,but It was talked about on The Frank Skinner Show-which is a British talk show. The woman who interviewed Mariah, was Lorraine Kelly. I am British and I watched the show,Lorraine Kelly didn't really say anything bad about Mariah, it was Frank Skinner who pulled it out of her really - coz' we all know what talk show hosts can be like!

I was in the dentists office waiting to go in and something came on the radio about Ms.Mariah, and it wasn't so good. I didn't get the name of the person who said this, or the radio station cause i didn't know at the time. But anyways the person was saying that Mariah was invited to be on this womens talk show, and Mariah was asked ahead of time to limit her entourage to 20 people. Mariah "supposedly" showed up LATE with 50 people, and the woman said she was rude to all her staff and producers, and to her. The woman said she would never invite Mariah to her show again, and was disgusted with her attitude, if this is true I don't really care I'd act the same way, we all have our bad days.

Hi! I was watching the Radio Music Awards last night (Nov. 4) and when Joe performed, I noticed a very interesting thing! He was using Mariah's women dancers! He performed a remixed "I Wanna Know" with samples of Minnie Riperton's "Loving You" which is one of Mariah's favorite songs and I do believe that Minnie Riperton is the lady who hits those super high notes just like Mariah!

I mean, that was a track we did in about an hour. It was just a four-bar drum pattern in the MPC, recorded straight to tape, with live keyboard overdubs. She needed to leave with a tape, so I sent her out with one. VVhen I listened to it, I said to myself, 'Hmm, gotta redo this and that.' Tell us about the music you�re doing for the new Mariah Carey movie. "It's called All seat Glitters and it takes place in the 1980s. It's been fun, ,cause we pulled out all the'80s synths and drum machines: the [Roland] TR-808, the [Oberheiml OB-8, all these old instnunents. It's like memory lane for me. But when you're dealing with film, inevitably someone wants to change something. "Let's slow " down here, change it here," so on and so forth, and that can cause problems depending on how you record. There�s one song that we think of as sort of the theme of the movie, and it's just a nice little song - not a big, dramatic thing. But the movie company was like, 'It would be great if you could ritard it here, and do a modulation there whatever. I'm thinking, "I played it all on analog tape, no sequencing, no nothing' " See, that would have been so easy if we had done it in the Pro Tools domain. So tonight, after Dr. Dre's concert, we're gonna come back in and load the track into Pro Tools, and hopefully manipulate it from there."

I just wanted to warn all Mariah fans about a Mariah scam going on at Napster. I came across a song supposedly by Mariah called "Burning Up." There had been some talk before about this song being on the soundtrack. So, I was excited and decieded to download it. It turns out that it was just a really old Celine Dion song. Also, I came across a song called "Where are you Christmas," supposedly by Faith Hill feat. Mariah. Well, I downloaded it and it turned out to be a Celine Dion Christmas song. I just wanted to let all you Mariah fans know about this so you don't get your hopes up if you download a Mariah song and you hear Celine's voice.

'Againts All Odd' In Singapore -

Hey! Well, I just want to higlight the situation of Against All Odds (feat. Westlife) in Singapore. So far, the response has been good but not as phenomenal as 'Can't Take That Away'. In the official Singapore Charts in the perfect 10 98.7 FM, it debuted at no. 20 where it is sitting now. In the Power 98 top 40 chart (Another popular Chart), it has been sitting at no. 38 for 2 consecutive weeks. This IS better than what 'Crybaby' got (It was only a touted entry for the official singapore charts but it never got in) Here is what you can do to increase airplay of the single in both power98 and perfect 10.

For power98, go to the official website (http://www.power98.com.sg) go to the requests section and try to request for each timeslot. For e-mail, use a common e-mail (for example hotmail) so as not to arouse suspicion and put in a company name such as McDonalds or something like that.

For perfect 10 98.7 FM, go to http://www.perfect10.com.sg click on 'Say It With Music' and request for a song. Try to sound like a dizzy teenager(my 24 year old sister's requests never get played because she writes them like a 24 year old) and request it to your parents, siblings, etc. I'm hoping 'against All Odds' will do much better than 'Can't Take That Away' (which peaked at no. 2 in the official charts and no. 4 in the power98 charts)Then, Mariah will get another no. 1 song in singapore. Westlife � Living Their Way
All five boys talk about music, fame, Spice Girls, media, Awards, living under pressure, having breakdowns between shopping trips and how to look Mariah Carey in the two balls� erm, eyeballs.

The duel of genders is on the cards, already code-named �Super Monday�, a girl-band with its third album versus a boy band with its second full-length record. Spice Girls� album �Forever� is released the same day the Westlife�s �Coast To Coast� and the Posh Becks (Victoria Beckham) said that they�d wipe the floor with the Irish lads. The boys� career has been rather a dream come true story and their response is �We�re going to kick their pretty asses!�. The outcome will be decided by fans� devotion and pocket money. Westlife�s fivesome of Bryan McFadden, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Shane Filan have recently scored their sixth straight-to-Number-One hit, the latest being a cover of Phil Collins�s �Against All Odds� with a little help of the divine Mariah Carey. Five million copies of the self-titled album are behind them and they have even managed to crack America, the traditionally hard-nut for not only British boy- but also any bands. �Coast To Coast� features �Fragile Heart� written by McFadden, Egan and Filan and the album is being launched by a mammoth 24-hour journey around Britain, visiting Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London. Ten days later the group will find out their standing with the MTV Europe viewers as they are nominated for the Best UK & Ireland Act Award. Their debut headlining tour of Britain, commencing in February next year and taking in 38 arenas, sold out in a few, record breaking, hours.

We faced the five members with a series of question starting with whether they feel pressure of all the success they�ve had?
Bryan McFadden: �In a sense because you really wonder what will happen. We�ve had such huge success that has amazed us, we are very grateful for everything and we have to ask ourselves whether it will continue. We want our music to be popular and successful but it will not be the end of the world if we don�t get another Number One.�

Posh Beckham has issued a challenge while dissing you?
Kian Egan: �She has and we�ll see what happens. It is a head-to-head but it wasn�t planned like that. It just happened and it is up to our fans against theirs to battle it out.�

Are you confident about your chances?
Mark Feehily: �That�s difficult to answer because it is not a question about our confidence, we believe in what we�ve done and have hopes, but outselling competition is not really up to us. It depends on so many other factors and I wouldn�t like to put money on a bet.�

How do you feel about the new album?
BMcF: �We love it and are really happy and excited to sing new songs. There is more of a positive feel, but there are still ballads on it, to give it a bit more restrained, emotional content. There is variety on it and we have really developed our own style.�

That doesn�t mean that comparisons with Backstreet Boys and N�Sync will stop?
Nicky Byrne: �That is another thing we can do nothing about and it is so unfair. We don�t try to imitate them and we do our own thing. We do our kinds of songs and they do their own. We are not trying to copy anybody.�

Still, the media continues to be dismissive of you?
KE: �These are opinions of certain people who appear not to like what we do. That�s their right and they can print their opinions. It is hurtful but it only lasts a short while and then you get on with it. We�ve also learnt not to take what people write too seriously. �The negativity of media is countered by popularity, one hopes?� Shane Filan: �Certainly because we experience reaction of people so much more and directly. One lesson we�ve learnt about media is to be careful what we say to certain publications. In the beginning we weren�t sure what and how to answer certain questions but you learn.�

There are a lot of rumours about you; how do you react to them?
MF: �Music career demands hard work, which is a really difficult to handle on the physical side. But, the attention of tabloid press and stories they print about us are really difficult to take and it is more worrying. Some are funny and you know they can�t be true but what we know - our parents don�t and they really get worried about it all. That�s the price you have to pay and we are paying it.� KE: �It�s very strange to read in the papers about everything you do and it is made to sound like it is important. Like having a haircut, or something.�

How much does all these interfere with you private lives?
NB: �What private lives? We have none!� BMcF: �True, we haven�t got any because we work all the time. And what little time we have we tend to spend with our families because we hardly ever see them. So, there is no time for much privacy and enjoyment.�

Which was demonstrated during your American trip when some of you had to get off the lunatic promotional carrousel?
BMcF: �Nobody ever tells you what hard work it is being in a band� Probably, even if they did, you wouldn�t listen or believe it, until you discover it for yourself. Well, I got nervous exhaustion and had to take a few days off to recover. Then, Mark�s grandfather died and he had to go to his funeral and then Shane had to go back for his sister�s wedding.�

Your last single was with Mariah Carey; how did that collaboration happen?
KE: �It was suggested and we all jumped at it. We first met at the American Music Awards and were speechless. The next time was when we recorded together.� Ms Carey is renown for her minimalist dress-style; how did you manage to keep your eyes above the microphone level? NB: �It was very difficult although she has beautiful eyes!� SF: �When she came to the studio she wore hot pants, a belly top and high heels with her hair tied back and with glasses on�� NB: �She is a great singer, a great character and a beautiful woman!�

She is known for her shopping power; do you shop yourselves or you have assistants taking care of it?
KE: �No, we buy our own stuff and all have different taste.� Is there a shopaholic among you? BMcF: �It�s definitely me, I buy a lot.� SF: �And he buys anything, sometimes he comes back with things you can�t believe!�

MTV Euro Awards are imminent and you are nominated, how do you feel about competitions of this kind?
NB: �It is very satisfying and we are really happy. Just to be nominated is special because it acknowledges your achievement�� KE: �This one is even more important because fans actually vote for it and it is not industry given. You know that the kids vote and that makes it really special.�

You�ve been to America, you�ve had success there and one wonders would you base yourselves there if your career demanded?
MF: �I think we all like it there but it is the States. I think I can speak for everybody when I say that we wouldn�t move there because it is so different from the way we were brought up. We�d miss our homes and families so we�d have to fly back all the time. We also have an impression that is not really good for your health and everybody is stressed out all the time, like they never relax. It�s not the reality we know��

In the United States, Madonna has now passed Mariah Carey as the 2nd best selling female artist of all time. Madonna's album certifications have recentely been updated, in addition to her new album, "Music," which was just certified 2x platinum. Madonna is now certified at 57x Platinum. And to add to that, Whitney Houston is now tied at 3rd place with Mariah, since Whitney is now certified at 52x platinum herself. Mariah has also fallen back from the 11th top selling artist of all time to the 15 biggest selling artist of all time (male or female). Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, and Madonna pushed Mariah back. It's going to take Mariah quiet some time to move up the chart. Her All That Glitters soundtrack must get certified at least 6x Platinum to pass Madonna. The way Mariah's albums have been selling lately, it's going to take Mariah two more albums to get ahead of Madonna.

-- Music Box STILL doing well Continuously high annual sales have encouraged Sony to manufacture even more copies of this fantastic album. "Music Box", which has now sold more than 26 million copies globally, has also been re-released throughout Europe and is approaching sales of 1 million in Australia - making it one of the highest selling albums of all time downunder. --AAO" - Malaysia "Good news for Malaysian fans! 'Against All Odds' (MfW) is finally getting some recognition in Malaysia! On THR, at least... For non- Malaysians, THR or Time Highway Radio is one of the West Coast's major radio stations. They're quite up-to-date with their music - which is why I kinda like it. And the THR Hot Picks On Youth Quake is a program that's aired every Thursday from 8 to 9 PM, to which listeners have to send in a recommended song through an entry form, available every week in The New Straits Times, one of Malaysia's leading newspapers.

So, apparently, Malaysians have been noticing the song, and realized they haven't been hearing it frequently enough. Well, they've certainly taken care of that! They've sent out enough entries to make it the #1 song on the list, this week!!! :-) A HUGE thanks to all Malaysians who recommended it!!! I think we might be hearing it a little bit more often from now on (on THR, at least).

It's ironic though... I called up one of the DJs about a month ago during a song dedication program, and requested 'Against All Odds' (the Mariah & Westlife version), and she went... err... huh?".

(OCT. 29) WENN - FIFTH - INTERNATIONAL MUSIC NEWS - WESTLIFE WERE NOT SNUBBED BY MARIAH
Irish pop sensations WESTLIFE have slammed a rumour that superstar MARIAH CAREY got them banned from appearing on the British chart show TOP OF THE POPS. Mariah was so upset at the rumour, she even telephoned the group from Barbados to apologise for it.

The smear merchants claimed that Westlife did not appear in the Top Of The Pops video for their joint hit single AGAINST ALL ODDS at Mariah's request.

Westlife manager LOUIS WALSH says,"They weren't in the video and the reason for that is quite simple. Mariah was in Toronto making a movie and it was there that the video was shot. They were busy and just couldn't be there.

"Mariah gets very bad press with people saying all sorts of things about her. Contrary to these rumours, the lads in Westlife think the world of her and they got on like a house on fire when they recorded together."

Hi! After spending 14 days in a ROW on my new job (is that a record?), I finally got a day off today and I am writing a newsupdate instead of Candice:

There was a small mention of Mariah in a swedish newspaper, that also destroys a myth? Mariah was on the swedish LUUK TV-show last year (I was there too!!) and now the host of the show was in an interview with a newspaper and he mentions Mariah two times, first he said that Mariah had more bodyguards than was nessesary, which was a diss cuz he obviously thinks Madonna is much more famous cuz Madonna has twice as many bodyguards than Mariah he says. Also he says that when he was gonna take a photo together with Mariah her stylist appeared and changed the settings on the camera and moved Mariah so it would look as good as possible. What was the myth? Well, he didn't mention any of the tons of things Mariah is supposed to demand back in her room when doing shows. He did say that Madonna demanded a playroom for her daughter, and Whitney demanded to have exactly 6 black towels that had been washed once. Can anyone figure out why?

I don't think anybody has yet made a transcript of the great things Vondie Curtis-Hall (ATG director) said in an interview for popcorn.co.uk about Mariah's performance in the film so I made it. The link was posted on Mariah Online and I think you could still view and listen to the interview in streaming video if you like. In any case, here's the transcript, which I spent a long time trying to make as accurate as possible:

She worked really hard for it. She did a lot of preparation and...uh...I think she felt she had a lot to prove so she really bucked it down and she's brilliant in the movie and, you know, think a lot of people are gonna be really surprised. I gave her as much direction as I could, I just sort of guided her in an area that I thought would best support her character...ah...She had a great acting coach...um...ah...that she worked with for a couple of years before she came to work in this picture and...um...you know, we would fight about some things and we'd come together on a lot of other...on most things. So it was great, it was a really great experience. Oh, I think the critics are inclined to go for her but I don't they'll have much of a leg to stand on because she's sooo brilliant in this movie..um...it just shocks me...you know...daily I would look at the rushes and, you know, just be blown away by Mariah AND the lead actor Max Beesly and their chemistry so I'm really excited...Bad boy Max!!...hehehe...He's great...It's such an...The great thing about this film is...it's great to have actors who actually do what they're supposed to be doing in the film. Mariah is a great singer so she's a great singer in this film. Max is a great producer and great a musician and he's a, in fact, he's a great pianist...ah... great drummer...ah, you know, and so he's actually playing...he's actually, you know, playing drums...he's actually playing piano...and, you know, the music that they're writing together, they're actually writing the music. So...you know... the verisimilitude is...ah...you know...it's sitting there. So it's just..it's fantastic.

Max:The thing about it is,u know what?? u know what we do,the papers and the media in this country,they have SUCH a responsibility because people REALLY DO believe what they read, and er she has got quite a bad reputation u know Mariah and er i'll NEVEREVER judge n e body until i meet them ever again because she was LOVELY! She was like a breath of fresh sir u know! and dead professional and generous and just a nice girl and er, its a shame that they abuse the power they have the media! Int:Sometimes! and ur right in the thick of it really at the mo! Max:Yeah its horrible cause they point me out to be some celebrity freak womanising guy etc etc I'll stop there cause he goes on to talk about if he is seen with some1 they don't know(ie a non celeb) nothing happens but as soon as he is spotted with n e celeb then he is in the papers lol he let out a lil more info than MC is giving out........she is trying to keep every1 in suspense recently about the in depth parts of the movie....so they r "lovers"??? and things become "volitile" can't wait!...for the movie!

I went today to my record store ( the FNAC ) and they had 4 or 5 copies of CTTA, the maxi single ! The cover of this one is different from the one they sell in the US. I have no scan but I can tell you that the cover is pink, like the one you put on your site someday. I think it's the one of the Wal-Mart CD ( Valentine's Day ).

New Album? New Single?

When I say 'new album', I don't mean the ATG soundtrack. It's filtered that After Tonight will be realesed. But it doesn't seem likely. And then there are reports that the first single from ATG will be released in Japan on Jan. 24th... And Regina has reported that at a managers confrence for Sam Goody they mentioned a new MC album and that it was a diffrent album from the ATG soundtrack.
